Tararani Vidyapeeth's Kamala College, Kolhapur was established on 15th June 1984 and managed under Tararani Vidyapeeth which was established in 1945.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Shivaji University, Kolhapur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 2nd November 1987 & 12(B) on 22nd January 1992 under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.87 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 10th March 2012.

The history is the late founder president of Tararani Vidyapeeth Hon. Dr. V. T. Patil earnestly desired that there should be a separate university in the name of Tararani - the Great.

Later the credit for making the college grantable within a short period of time goes to Late Hon. Rangraodata Patil, the Great Patriot, and father of Founder Principal. His strong support in the establishment and development of Kamala College is ever-memorized.

The college is named after 'Kamala', the maternal name of  Sarojini Devi Vishwanath Patil ( wife of Late President Dr. V. T. Patil ) who created a trust of her entire property for the development of Tararani Vidyapeeth.

The objective of the institute is to disseminate the women’s education and inculcation of need-based academic and intellectual skills and to inculcate moral values and scientific temper.

The Tararani Vidyapeeth has been established numbers of colleges/schools for the student in the region of Maharashtra and all over the India.

The trust started a school with 22 girl-students in the year 1945. The school was named after Tararani. The institution is presently known as Tararani Vidyapeeth having K.

G. to P. G. all on one campus.

It is a woman private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of  Kolhapur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education. the campus is located in another city also has a different name of institutions.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 27th May 2016.

This college has awarded as the best college by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Also Numbers of an award in publication, offering scholarship also awarded by the different society.

At present, the college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams with optional streams under Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, Pune.

The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams with various specializations and offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts stream under Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It also offers Post Graduate Diploma and Certificate courses.

The college also offers courses in distance education mode for the students and which are affiliated with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik.
