Sri Venkataramana Swamy College, Bantwal (Dist. Dakshina Kannada) was also known as SVS College, Bantwal was established on 1st April 1968 managed by Sri Venkataramana Swamy Vidyavardhaka Sangha.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
The college is affiliated to Mangalore University, Mangaluru and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 26th May 1981 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.31 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 5th November 2016.

It is the first centre for higher education to have come up in Bantwal Taluk, was the direct result of the concerted efforts of Late Sri. Bantwal Raghurama Mukunda Prabhu, a great visionary, who jointly formed a trust along with a few philanthropists of Bantwal to run educational institutions with the sole objective of catering to the educational needs of the young students in this backward region.

The founders registered the trust as Sri Venkataramana Swamy Vidyavardhaka Sangha in 1966 and the Sangha gave birth to its first child in the form of Sri Venkataramana Swamy College, Bantwal in 1968.

The college started functioning in a modest way having just 140 students on its roll offering only two programmes, i.e., B.A., and B.Com. Gradually, it began to expand its horizon strengthening itself in different spheres.

The introduction of B.Sc. Computer Science, B.B.M., B.C.A. and M.Com courses over the years have been in tune with the vision of the Sangha to transform the college into one of the best centres of higher education in the state.

Bearing in mind the need for providing to the students what they fail to derive from the prescribed curricula, the institution has introduced 13 certificate courses under the banner "Beyond Curriculum‟.

The commencement of online courses like ERP-SAP (Enterprise Resource Planning - System Application Products) has the objective of transforming our students into highly marketable products in the international job market.

In the field of teaching and learning, a number of innovative practices have been introduced from time to time to enhance the quality of education imparted by the college.

Despite the financial constraints often faced, the college has always taken pains to strengthen the modes of teaching by introducing ICT.

The students belonging to B.Com. B.Sc. and M.Com. streams have been bringing laurels to the college by securing ranks consecutively for more than a decade. Even the students of B.A. course have bagged ranks on a couple of occasions in spite of having had to study theoretical subjects where scoring marks are pretty difficult.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams and offers two years postgraduate course in Commerce stream under Mangalore University, Mangaluru. It also offers Add-On Certificate courses.
