Subhadra Mahtab Mahavidyalaya, Asureswar was established in 1979, with blessing of Dr. H. K. Mahatab, the builder of Mordern Orissa.

Government of Orissa accorded concurrence for opening of IA. class with 128 seats, having English, M.I.L.(O) as compulsory subject and Oriya, His¬tory, Sociology, Political Science, Economics as optional subject during the session 1980-81 and it was affiliated to the Utkal Uni¬versity during the same session.

The college offers three years degree course in Science was opened in the college with the concurrence of the Government during the session 1998-99, with Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology.

As in the Arts stream, Indian society and culture, Environmental studies and computer application have been introduced as developed curriculum of the dynamic course structure of the Utkal University to promote the inter-disciplinary approach.
