St. Thomas College (STC), Bhilai was established on 1st July 1984. It is one of the prestigious colleges which has played a pioneering role in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.

The college is located in an area of 10 acres of land in Ruabandha Sector, Bhilai. It is a self-supporting and self-financing institution sponsored by St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church Mission, Bhilai. The St. Thomas College is run by a Christian Minority Community.

The college is affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (Migrated to Durg Vishwavidyalaya, Durg since 2016) and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (Second Cycle) on 19th September 2011.
 
It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 12th September 1989 & 12(B) on 22nd November 1991 of the Act, 1956. For Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Course the college is recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) on 20th September 2002.

The college runs self-financed courses and is recognized by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B). The vision of the college is a commitment to guide students to achieve excellence through holistic education. Accordingly, the mission of the college is to mold students to be morally upright, socially committed, spiritually inspired by the motto of the institution “The Way, The Life, The Truth” and to be responsible citizens.

St. Thomas College was envisioned as an institution that would inculcate strong human values along with advanced knowledge so as to fulfill the motto of becoming a centre for learning where education is a commitment and the institution set the benchmark. The institution believes in the dictum that learning should be valuable and lasting.

The founder, His grace Stephanos Mar Theodosius advocated an all-around awakening on issues that threaten the world and stressed on the need for meaningful education.

The college has transformed itself from a very humble beginning into the most vibrant and happening college, leaving its peer way behind in almost all spheres - be it academics, sports, art and culture or discipline. The college is recognized as the best college in academics, sport, and cultural activities.

This college was the first to receive the BEST COLLEGE award for Performance Index of Affiliated Colleges of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, initiated in the year 2013.

Over the past 32 years, the college has done its utmost to ensure that its outgoing students are well-placed with bright career prospects. The Placement cell of the college is ever-alert to the requirement of the students who, in turn, are well-equipped by the multi-faceted activities provided in the college.

The college offers three years Degree Courses & two years PG Courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce stream under Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. It also offers some Management Courses / P.hD. Courses / Career Oriented Courses / Add-On Courses.

Rules & Regulations at St.

Thomas College (STC), Bhilai:

• Every student shall obtain on admission his/her identity card. The student shall always carry the card with his/her photograph affixed thereon and attested and shall present it for inspection when demanded. No student will be allowed to attend classes, practical etc. unless he/she has his/ her identity card with him/her. In case of loss or misplacement, new identity card will be issued after payment of Rs. 150/
• Students should not loiter on the corridors while the classes are in the session
• No Student shall collect any money as contribution for picnic, trip, educational visit to some place, get-together, study notes, charity or any other activity without the prior sanction of the Principal
• No student shall communicate any information or write about matters dealing with the college administration to the press
• Students are expected to take proper care of the college property and to help in keeping the college premises neat and tidy. Damaging the property of the college eg. disfiguring walls, doors, fittings or breaking furniture etc is a breach of discipline and will be duly punished/ penalised
• Students should not leave their books, valuables and other belongings in their classroom, laboratory etc. The college will not be responsible for any loss of such property
• If for any reason, the continuance of the student in the college is, in the opinion of the Principal, (which shall be final) detrimental to the best interests of the college, the Principal may ask such a student to leave the college without giving reasons for his decision
• In case of misbehavior of students, they can be suspended from the college; the decision of the Principal in such cases shall be final.
• Canteen hours should be followed strictly
• Smoking and alcohol consumption are forbidden
• Ragging of any sort is strictly forbidden in the college
• Students with criminal record are not eligible for admission
• Students shall not be allowed to change the sections allotted to them
• Students are advised not to bring any friends/ relatives etc.

  to the college during regular classes, functions etc. without prior permission of the Principal

• It is recommended that the students come to college in simple and unostentatious dress suitable for an academic environment
• Students have to appear for the internal tests, half yearly exams and model exams conducted by the college
• For withdrawing T. C, Caution money and for obtaining Railway concessions/air travel concession forms, the students will have to apply to the Principal for the same and shall receive the desired document after three days of submission of the application
• Library rules shall be strictly followed. Any student who takes books from the college library without permission or cuts pages out of library books, exposes himself/ herself to the gravest penalties. Mutilation or loss of library books shall be compensated for by payment of thrice the amount of the price. Sub-lending of books is strictly forbidden
• Students are instructed not to represent the college at the University for any matter whatsoever, without the written permission of the Principal
• Phone Calls for students will not be entertained
