St. Mary's Engineering College, Guntur was established in 2007. The Institute is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU). The Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

St. Mary's Engineering College is sponsored by Joseph Sriharsha & Mary Indraja Educational Society. The Society was established by Rev. Dr. K V K Rao. in 1996 with a social responsibility of educating, training and developing our youth, realizing that youth of a country is the pillar stone for the overall development and prosperity of the nation. Rev K.V.K. Rao, Founder and Chairman, Smt. K.V.N.V. Bharathi Devi, President and Joseph Sriharsha, Secretary, of JSMIES firmly believe that education should aim itself at shaping the personality of a student and molding well into a responsible citizens of the society. The major strength of the institute is its ability to ensure holistic development of students to make them educated and employable, industry ready and enlightened citizens. Thus, the time-honored tenets - Knowledge, Wisdom, and Truth have been guiding forces for the founders in building the society.

St. Mary's Engineering College Hyderabad was established in 2007 as a private, self financing institution in a rural area of Telangana. The institution was established with the noble idea of imparting technical education and skills in rural students.

The Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and is affiliated to JNTUH, Hyderabad. The institute is accreditated by NAAC in 2017.The instituite is permanantly recognized by NCMEI, New Delhi, Govt. Of India as Christian Minority Institution.

The SMEC, Hyderabad is providing quality technical education towards achieving high standards of teaching, training and development of human resources by encouraging the faculty and staff to work as a team and to update their knowledge and skills continuously to match the needs of the industry.

The institution formulated action plans for effective implementation of the curriculum prescribed by JNTUH. Teachers are oriented to execute the plan and are also encouraged to use innovative teaching methods such as Power Point Presentations, Assignments, Discussions, Seminars, Video Lectures, etc., apart from traditional lecture methods to impart the Curriculum.
