St. Bede's College, Shimla is a women's college was established on 8th March 1904. The college was originally established as a teacher's training institute in 1904 by Mother Clare.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 29th May 1971 under Act, 1956.
It is also recognized & approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Jaipur to offer D.Ed. course and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.54 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 15th September 2016.
Today, it offers courses in Economics, English, Geography, Microbiology, etc. and holds the distinction of being the only college in the state of Himachal Pradesh to receive an "A" accreditation by UGC-NAAC.
Administered by St. Bede’s Educational Society, the College has been conferred with the enviable distinction of Heritage Status by the UGC and also recognized as College with Potential for Excellence (CPE).
The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.
In 1947, at the dawn of Indian Independence, the college which was previously meant (mainly) for Christian girls, opened its doors to students of different faiths; later, on by popular demand, they started a course of undergraduate studies as well.
They grew in strength and a need was felt for additional classrooms. A new block with modern architecture and design was commissioned in 1964 – it consisted of a library, classrooms, and an upper floor dormitory.
St.Bede's Community is now a large network including a Teachers' Training College and a college of general education for girls.
Under the general education program, the college runs undergraduate programs in Science and Arts and offers B.A.pass course as well as B.A.Honours courses in Economics, English, and Geography.
Today the college also offers self-supportive courses like B.Com, B.B.A, B.C.A, B.Sc. Honors in Microbiology and Biotechnology. Further prospects are to open P.G.courses M.A.English, PGDCA.
