Sri Yerramilli Narayanamurthy (Y.N) college was established in the year 1949 in Narsapur Town of West Godavari on the banks of river Godavari.

The college is affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam formerly to Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade and recognized by UGC as "College With Potential for Excellence".

The college attained the status of the full-fledged and autonomous college in 1956 and has been elevated to Post-Graduate level in the year 1989-90.

The college was founded in the year 1949 as “THE NARSAPUR COLLEGE” By Sri Yerramilli Narayanamurthy, an eminent advocate and educationalist to cater the needs and to improve the facility of collegiate education in the Godavari District. His firm, undeterred and unflinching efforts won the munificence of the Govt. of Andhra State in transferring its sub-collector’s quarters to house the college.

The college in 1967 was named after its founder as “Sri Yerramilli Narayanamurthy College” popularly known as “Sri Y.N.College”.

Later Sri Yerramilli Narayana Murthy college of Education was established by the Sri Yerramilli Narayana Murthy College Management in the year 2007 – 08. The college is situated in the YN College campus on the banks of river Vasisita Godavari in a serene atmosphere.

The college is being running successfully by the able and efficient principal with 25 years of administrative experience in college of Education. Qualified Staff as per National Council for Technical Education (NCTE) norms.

75% of the admissions are made on the basis of the state wide common entrance test and 25% under management quota (with or with out Ed CET). Minimum qualifying examination is any degree (B.A., B.Sc. or B.Com from any recognized university with 45% marks in aggrerate. For OBC 5% relaxation in marks and for SC – Minimum pass Required.
 
Methods Offered: Physical Science and Mathematics Biological Science and English and Telugu.

Social Studies and English or Telugu Special English and Social Studies.

Then management of Sri Y.N.College proposed to start Sri Y.N.College of Elementary Education in Sri Y.N.College campus to facilitate the students to undergo diploma training in Elementary Education. Formal recognition was issued by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) on 03.03.2015 and the course is going to be commenced from the academic year 2015-2016

Basically the D.E.Ed programme is of duration of two academic years with 200 working days in each year.

Admission at Sri Y.N.College of Elementary Education for Diploma in Elementary Education shall be made on the basis of statewide entrance examination and 25% of seats are filled under management quota.

The Alumni of the college comprises people from all walks of life IAS Officers, Eminent Doctors, Judges, Lawyers,Software-Engineers, Scientists what not including popular Thespians and Matinee idols of the silver screen.
