Sri Rama and Bhaktha Gentela Narayana Rao Government Degree College also called as S.R & B.G.N.R Degree College was established in 1956. It is affiliated to Kakatiya University, Warangal and accredited by NAAC with 'B' Grade.

The college was a major graduation hub for the whole district of Khammam and offering Degree and Post Graduate courses.

Establishing this college was not a cakewalk since there was lack of funds to purchase a site to build the college. A government committee came up with the suggestion of auctioning the ornaments of Badhradri Rama which were made by Baktha Ramadasu.

Baktha Gentela Narayana Rao, the strong worshipper of Lord Sri Rama, came forward and donated his 200 acre land surrounded by Wyra Raoad and Yellandu road to government for building Govt. Degree College. Later District Court and its Quarters, Stadium, University PG College, Medicinal Park etc. were built on the same land.

The college ground was given away for constructing Sardar Patel Stadium, which is famous for hosting inter-district and inter-state sports events. The college also organises various leadership programs under National Service Scheme(NSS).

The history department has carried out significant research in major megalithic sites around Khammam District. The college had shown interest in constructing a museum. Prof KP Rao of University of Hyderabad has been a valuable guide for the research team during excavation of the Megalithic pottery.
