Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy Arts, Science & Commerce College, Kurnool was established in the year 1976. It is affiliated to Rayalaseema University, Kurnool.

In a time like ours, when higher education is strictly limited to the cities and towns, the emergence of a Degree College in a rural place like Velgode is indeed an adventure of mind and splendid attempt.  As usual with every new blossoming college, the college at Velgode has not come to be what it is without persisted efforts and unflinching will, it is not by leaps and bounds that the college has acquired its present from but through a steady crawl.

It is interesting to know after all the idea of starting a Degree College at Velgode came about.  In 1971 the local Land-Lords and Forest Contractors of Velgode thought of establishing a Degree College by investing 2 lakhs of rupees.  They tried to the best of their ability only to know that their efforts were futile.  Then they approached in June, 1976 Dr. R. Ratna Swami, who was then working as head of the Department of Botany at Madanapalle Besant Theosophical College.  Dr. R. Ratna Swami, a devoted teacher and learned man of the highest rank felt interested in the idea of starting a Degree College at Velgode which is no other than his own native place.  He resigned his highly paid job at Madanapalle and came to Velgode in 1976 September.  The moment he came to Velgode in 1976 September, he kept himself busy and took active part in establishing a Degree College.  It is no exaggeration to say that without his active interest, academic zeal and systematic planning the college would not have come into existence and acquired its present status.  

Soon after the Andhra Pradesh Govt. decision to bring the degree colleges existing in the Kurnool and Anantapur districts into the fold of S.K.

University, the University extended affiliation to this college in its Rc. No. SKU/BBB/88 dated 21-7-1988.  And the most important event in the college history is the Govt. after satisfying conditions for eligibility into Grant-in-Aid, admitted this college into Grant-in-Aid in terms of G.O.Ms.No. 537 Education (CE) Department dated 29-10-1986 further in terms of G.O.S.No. 208 ducation of (CE2) Department dated 31-8-1987 and in the Director of Higher Education Andhra Pradesh Government, Hyderabad proceedings Rc. No. 3647/DC4-1/87 dated 29-10-1987 released the grants to this college with effect from 1-9-1985.
