Smt. Velagapudi Durgamba (S.V.D.) Government Degree College for Women, Nidadavole was established in 1983 with B.A & B.Com courses, as per the G.O . M.S.No.376 Dated 12-09-1983 of the Director of Higher Education.

The college was permanently affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatanam and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with "B" Grade.

Permanent affiliation was given to the college in the year 1990-1991 vide RC No CII-1724/83, Dated 27-04-1991 of the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. The college was admitted to U.G.C under 2F and 12B and thus got eligibility for required grant from U.G.C.

Named after Smt.Velagapudi Durgaamba, the college, S.V.D Government Degree College for Women, has been in the forefront in sending educated women into the Society, since its establishment in 1983. Smt Rajeswari Ramakrishnan, the reputed managing Director of Jypore Sugars Ltd., Chagallu contributed a great deal by financially supporting the college for its establishment as well as for providing infrastructural facilities.

In 1998 the college started B.Sc. Computer Science course with  Maths, Physics, Computer Science course and also acquired the permanent affiliation. CII(3) EXT Affl/1999-2000 Dt 5/11/1999
