St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama (Dist. Kohima) was a Catholic institution of higher learning was established on 19th March 1985 and managed by the Diocese of Kohima, Nagaland a St. Joseph’s College Society.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with the Nagaland University, Kohima formerly affiliated with North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 15th July 2003 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.12 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 16th September 2016.
It was the first college established by the Catholic Church the Society of Jesus in Nagaland was inaugurated first in Loyola School Campus, Jakhama, then later this college was located in a separate spacious campus in Jakhama village.
The aims of the college were at imparting quality higher education that is based on the Christian vision of life. Also, the Catholic education stresses the formation of the whole person by recognizing and developing the vast potentialities latent in the student in a balanced manner, taking into account the student’s socio-cultural context.
It is a co-educational private Institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural and tribal part of a northeast region of Kohima played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams with various specializations under Nagaland University, Kohima. Also, it also offers Diploma and Add-On Certificate courses.
Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.
