About Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya (S.S.M.V.)
Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya (S.S.M.V.), Bhilai Nagar was established on 5th July 1997. It is one of the prestigious colleges which has played a pioneering role in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.
The college is affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (Second Cycle) on 10th December 2014.
It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 25th September 2004 & 12(B) on 10th January 2008 of the Act, 1956. For Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) & Master of Education (M.Ed) Courses the college is recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) on 19th April 2004 & 29th August 2008 (B.Ed) & 28th May 2008 (M.Ed).

S.S.M.V. creates students who change the world. Epitomizing and synthesizing old values with modern education, S.S.M.V. students have a heightened awareness of their productive role in society. Endowed with a holistic belief they venture into the world as highly competent and creatively confident individuals, fine-tune their professional skills and are expertise to meet the requirements of the world and carve a niche for themselves.
The college offers three years Degree Courses & two years PG Courses in Science & Commerce stream under Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. It also offers some Management Courses / Career Oriented Courses / Add-On Course.
It also conducts general classes for NET, SET, and other Competitive Examination. Preparation for Entrance Test i.e. MAT, CAT, CPT, Railway, SSC etc.

- State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
- The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
- Transport facilities for the student are available from the trust. Round the clock transport facility is provided to the students for community camps, industrial visits, picnic etc.
- The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
- Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
- A multipurpose Auditorium complex with facilities for large meetings, cultural programs, and indoor sports activities is under construction and is also being partially used for those purposes
- The college has got a large playground, Basket Ball court and facilities and equipment for different sports like Cricket, football, Volleyball, Hockey, badminton, Table tennis and so on
- A health care has been started in the college for the benefit of students and the local population. Two highly qualified Doctors weekly visit the centre. Checkups are done and medicines are given free of costs
- State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell
- The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment
- For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals
- The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
- The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
- The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
