Shri J.S.Bhakta & Shri K.M.Bhakta Arts & Shri A.N.Shah Science College & Shri N.F. Shah Commerce College, Surat was established on 1st June 1966.

It is one of the premier & oldest “multi-faculty college” in Gujarat to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), Surat and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) 1955 & 12(B) under Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.64 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 8th January 2011.

Since its accreditation by NAAC peer team in the year 2011 the Institute has worked hard to implement the suggestions put forward by NAAC peer team and this document is a testimony to this fact. The IQAC cell of the Institute has developed many quality assurance mechanisms which have bolstered the institute to leapfrog the quality in education imparted.

It has invigorated the academic environment of the college by organizing seminars/workshops sponsored by Gujarat Sahitya Academy, by the institution itself and by UGC, upgrading classrooms with ICT facilities and developing playground. IQAC analyses the feedback received from all stakeholders and communicates the same to them. IQAC puts special efforts to implement the suggestions received from its stakeholders.

Institute has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). Acknowledging the fact that in the current scenario wherein students from diverse socio-economic background tend to have different subject choices, the Institute gives maximum possible choices of a group of subjects to the students. In other words, the Institute has tried to implement CBCS in letter and in spirit.

There has been an unprecedented increase in the number of students seeking admissions to the institute in the subject of Microbiology in Science faculty.

The Institute started “Microbiology” program on “Self Finance” basis which exemplifies the institute’s commitment towards bringing more and more students under its ambit. A brief presentation of academic and co-curricular activities, considered criterion-wise, shall be worth presenting

Shah Commerce College happens to be the only affiliated Grants-in-Aid college of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat offering UG, PG and Research programs in multi- faculties. The mission of our college is to make quality education available and affordable to all.

The main aim of the college is to provide value-based education to the future torch-bearers and inculcate in them all qualities and traits of ideal citizenship and leadership.

Being an affiliated college, faculty members of the institute have proactively contributed in giving final shape to the syllabi. The institute takes the special interest in enhancing knowledge of its’ faculties by encouraging them to participate in workshops/seminars/Hands-on training, refresher and orientation courses, short term programs related to improvement in quality arranged by Govt. of Gujarat etc.

To be in tune with technology and motivate staff to use alternative teaching and learning methodologies the Institute has installed LCD projectors in most of the classrooms. Few Faculties prepare power point presentation (ppt) of their lectures. “SANDHAN” program telecasted by Govt. of Gujarat are shown regularly to the students. Facility of LCD projectors is also widely used by students when they give seminars in their classes particularly in science stream
