Shivaji Arts & Commerce College, Karwar was also known as Shivaji Education Society's Shivaji Arts and Commerce College, Karwar established in 1970 and managed under Shivaji Education Society (R), Baad, Karwar.

It is affiliated with Karnatak University, Dharwad and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is also recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru to offer B.Ed. course and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.74 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 21st April 2012.

The dedication and efforts made by Late Shri Sakharam Dattarey Gaonkar. Ex Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, Govt of Karnataka, Banglore and Late, Shri Ganpati Sadashiv. Naik. (Proprietor of A.B.C.Book stall, Karwar) the society has started full pledged Arts College in the year 1970-71.

The Karnatak University, Dharwad permitted to the Society to add Commerce Section to the existing Arts College and from the 1981-82 year, it would become a full pledged Arts and Commerce College.

With the support of Late Shri Sakharam Dattarey Gaonkar. Ex Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, Govt of Karnataka, Bengaluru, and others and the then Principal Late Shri Vishwanath Bomma Desai. Retd. Commissioner for Public instructions is the main root cause for the establishment of B.Ed college which is the senior most B.Ed.college in Karnataka.

College of Education was started in the year 1972.

The B.Ed. college caters the needs of not only the young and aspirants graduates of this educationally backward area to become the full pledged teachers but also provides opportunities to the students coming from neighboring districts like Belgaum, Bijapur, Dharwad and Belgaum and the college also attracted even the students from neighboring states like Goa, Kerala, Andhra and Maharastra. The process for sanction of grant in aid is in full swing and now it is the verge of sanctioning.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, & BCA streams with optional specializations in Arts & Commerce stream under Karnatak University, Dharwad.

The college also offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
