Shankaragowda College of Education, Mandya was established in August 1974 under the management of People’s Education Trust (R).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

It is affiliated to University of Mysore, Mysuru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) in May 1995 & 12(B) in January 2003 under Act, 1956.

It is also recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru to offer B.Ed. course and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade  - (CGPA Score 2.30 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 10th December 2014.

It is located in the P.E.S. College of Engineering Campus, a place renowned as a Centre of Educational Institutions where academic facilities are given right from Secondary School up to research studies in various branches of Humanities, Science, and Technology.

Later shifted to the new premises in 1978-79. The college has given importance to the development of infrastructure and other academic facilities.

It is a campus of beauty, of lush green gardens, nestled in an atmosphere of cool, hygienic breeze. The college is situated (near Bannur Road) at Mandya, popularly known as “Sakkare Nagara”(Sugar City), in between Bengaluru and Mysuru at a distance of 100 km from Bangalore and 45 km from Mysore. It is one of the Pioneer teacher education institutions in Karnataka.

The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college offers B.Ed.

degree course in the methodology of English, Kannada, Physics, Mathematics, History, Biology and Chemistry, Commerce streams.
