Selvam College of Physical Education, Namakkal was established in 2006.

Selvam College of Physical Education was established by the pioneer in Poultry Industry and a Philanthropist, Dr.P.Selvaraj in 2006 under the auspices of V.Ponnusamy Educational and Charitable Trust, which was formed in the fond memory of his late father. The College is fully self – supporting and it has been founded to serve the youth of the predominantly agricultural, under privileged and downtrodden families in the neighborhood. Started with B.P.Ed., Course, 4 faculty members and an initial intake of 38 students.

At present, the college has student strength of about 145. Their economic background is poor and their School Education has been acquired through vernacular medium. A team of 10 qualified competent and dedicated faculty members is committed to duty, discipline and service. The college offers B.P.E., B.P.Ed., and M.P.Ed., M.Phil., programmes, P.G. Diploma Courses in Fitness Management and Yoga which have High Employment Potential, with the aim of making the students employable, self – employable or becoming entrepreneurs with in a span of 4 years, the college has grown vertically and horizontally there by providing upward mobility to our students. This institution tries to enrich the students with an education, which is intellectually challenging, ethically sensitive, socially compassionate and academically sound.

Selvam College of Physical Education was started B.P.Ed Degree Course in the year 2006 – 2007. B.P.E – Degree Course was started in the year 2007- 2008. M.P.Ed – Degree Course was started in the year 2008 – 2009 and M.Phil Research Programme started in the year 2010 – 2011. B.P.E – Degree Course was restructuring as a B.P.E.S – Degree Course in the academic year 2016 – 2017 all the courses were affiliated to Tamil Nadu Physical Education Sports University This institution was started for the purpose of Rural Students to develop the Sports.

Past 10 years our students were placed in Government and Matriculation School as a Physical Education Teacher, Police Department, Eastern Railway, Services (Military).  To offer unique graduate, Post-graduate and research Programs in Physical Education, Sports and allied fields.  To closely collaborate and coordinate with the Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University in Physical Education and Sports, in matters of common interest and concern. Our management is giving every year the Meritious Scholarship for outstanding sports performance in Sports and Games.

To create an ideal academic environment for Learning, Scholarship, Professionalism, and Collaboration that fosters Excellence in active student learning and professional growth. To design and introduce innovative, integrated, inter-disciplinary curriculum in Physical Education and various Sports and games and allied areas and provide Leadership to the Profession. To produce competent health conscious Physical Education teachers at various levels, who will be fully equipped to impart instruction in Physical Education and undertake physical activity programmes for children and youth. To develop High-Tech research facilities and contribute to the body to knowledge through scholarly work and publications, and disseminate the findings to the professionals, faculty and students. To facilities the application of research finding to refine and sharpen the coaching and training techniques in Physical Education and Sports. To actively design programme for the promotion and development of fitness and health concept among the students, faculty and the community around so as to mould them into physically fit and emotionally matured citizens.
