Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College (Autonomous), Ujire (Dist. Dakshina Kannada) was popularly known as SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire established in 1966 under the management of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Educational Society (R).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

It is affiliated with Mangalore University, Mangaluru since 1989 formerly affiliated with Mysore University, Mysuru and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.61 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 1st May 2015.

It is an affiliated college with grant-in-aid support from the Government of Karnataka and also accorded with autonomous status by the UGC and is one of the five autonomous colleges under Mangalore University, Mangaluru.

SDM College was a brainchild of the then Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Sri D Ratnavarma Heggade. The college continued to grow with the introduction of Postgraduate programs from the academic year 2001. The college attained academic autonomy from the academic year 2007.

At present, the college along with 5 undergraduate 10 postgraduate programs also offers Ph.D. programs affiliated to the universities of Kannada University - Hampi, Tumkur University - Tumakuru, and Mangalore University - Mangaluru.

It is one of the most reputed colleges in India with high academic quality and ample co-curricular opportunities for a successful professional growth. The architecturally striking buildings, amidst the lush green campus, provide an aesthetic environment for academic performances.

The UG, PG and Research Programmes are strengthened by active student engagement. The college is established in a vast land area of more than 25 acres in the background of the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats in Belthangady Taluk.

The college has a distinguished record of commitment to equal opportunities. About 60 % of the students get one or the other scholarships. Nearly 2500 Undergraduate and 500 Postgraduate students study at a campus. A large proportion of our students live in college accommodation.
