The establishment of the erst while University of Cochin in 1971 was a commitment from the Government of Kerala towards the new scientific policy resolution adopted by the Central Government .
The University of Cochin was later reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986.
The School of Legal Studies, established in 1962, is one of the oldest departments of the University.
It was formed as a part of Kerala University, offering post graduate courses and research in law.
This Law School joined the folds of University of Cochin,also runs specialized electives for graduate law courses.
The Institution enjoys the prime status among the top Law Schools in India. In the last 47 years of its glorious existence, the Law School has been emphasizing on the development of the qualities of self learning, innovations, responsibility and adaptability of each student.
