Atpadi Education Society's Srimant Babasaheb Deshmukh Mahavidhyalaya, Atpadi (Dist. Sangli) is popularly known as Atpadi College was established on 15th June 1969 and managed by Atpadi Education Society (R), which was established in 1953.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 15th June 1969 under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

The aim of the college is to search for the hidden potential of the student & to enrich their perception to uplift society & nation also  to cater educational, social, cultural needs of society of ‘Maandesh', expansion of learning opportunities for higher level of knowledge has started resulting into seeking suitable opportunities, achievements & fulfillment.

It is a co-educational private Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the rural part of Sangli played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

From 1969 till today Atpadi College is making hard painstaking efforts to fulfill the goals and dreams of Srimant Babasaheb Deshmukh Through steady progressive steps.

As a tribute to the great work & contribution of Shrimant Babasaheb Deshmukh in the field of education, co-operation sector, social reforms, politics & upliftment of the poor especially in Atpadi Taluka, Managment Council of Atpadi Education Society.

Atpadi made a resolution to change the name of Atpadi College, Atpadi as Shrimant Babasaheb Deshmukh Mahavidyalaya, Atpadi.

Accordingly, a proposal was sent to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur for approval. The University authorities have approved the proposal of change in the name of the college on 5th May 2012.

The college was started with the single course was an Arts which epoch in the field of Higher Education in the rural area.

Later Addition of faculties-Science, Commerce, Computer Science and post graduate department has made the college a full-fledged multifaceted educational complex.

Along with Shrimant Babasaheb Deshmukh Mahavidyalaya, Atpadi Education Society has been imparting education through 35 High schools, 10 Junior Colleges in different rural talukas of Maharashtra.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the admission criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under Shivaji University, Kolhapur

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, Science, and Management streams and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts stream with various specializations under Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
