Sastra University-School of Mechanical Engineering (SME), Thanjavur was established in 1994.

This college is affiliated to Sastra University.

The mian objective of the school is to educate, train and develop highly qualified engineers capable of meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing manufacturing system and capable of handling other diverse issues in mechanical engineering.

The B. Tech program in Mechatronics is offered with an unique combination of expertise from M/s. Brakes India Ltd. and support from Govt. of India. A state-of-the-art mechatronics laboratory has been setup with modern infrastructure conducive to research and learning.
