Sahyadri Arts College, Shivamogga was also known as Sahyadri Arts & Commerce College, Shivamogga was established on 24th June 1940. It is one of the constituent parts of the Kuvempu University, Shivamogga.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

It is affiliated to Kuvempu University, Shivamogga and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 28th December 1994 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.01 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 15th September 2016.

Since its inception, the college was started with 105 students and nine faculty members as an intermediate college. But converted Sahyadri College into Sahyadri Arts College and Sahyadri Science College in August 1984. In 1956-57 the college was upgraded into First Grade College with the introduction of B.A. and B.Sc. programs.

The strength of the college increased by leaps and bounds at regular intervals. Therefore, it became necessary to bifurcate the erstwhile Sahyadri College into Sahyadri Arts College and Sahyadri Science College in December 1984. Later, B.Com. program was introduced in 1990.

With a view to developing Sahyadri Arts and Commerce College and Sahyadri Science College as model colleges, the university requested the Government of Karnataka to transfer these colleges to university in 1991.

Accordingly, the Government transferred these colleges to university. Sahyadri Arts & Commerce College caters to the needs of both rural and urban students. Majority of students come from rural areas.

The Sahyadri Arts College is recognized as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)” status on 19th March 2010. It is one among the colleges in India recognized as “College with Potential for Excellence”.

Sahyadri Arts & Commerce College has adequate infrastructural facilities to fulfill these priorities.

The institution is located on a sprawling campus of 79.1 acres of land.

The college offers undergraduate courses, post graduate courses, and add-on courses and planning to start various innovative Certificate / Diploma Courses / Programmes in every department of this college.
