SAE Institute (SAEI), Chennai was established in1976.

Its affiliated to Dibrugarh University.

by engineer/producer Tom Misner. He developed the first practical/theoretical curriculum. At this point of time there are no other colleges anywhere in the world offering practical audio education.

The first course was mostly held in the institute's own track recording studio.

The college is a UGC recognized university and a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
