Sri Rajah Vatsavai Butchi Seetayamma Jagapathi Bahadur (S.R.V.B.S.J.B) Maha Ranee College was established in August 1967. The college is affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'B' Grade. In the year 1993-94, the college obtained the status of an Autonomous College.

The college name indicates an enlightened and philanthropic Maha Ranee of the Peddapuram Samsthanam. Due to the then chairman of the East Godavari Zilla Parishad, Sri S.B.P.B.K Satyanarayana Rao the college came into existence.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh also played an important role by allowing the usage of Rs. 90,000 for the college from the Maha Ranee Choultry funds. The site to build the college was purchased with Rs 50, 000 donated by SARVARAYA EDUCATIONAL TRUST, KAKINADA. Further, Sri SATYANARAYANA RAO and other prominent figures such as SRI MUPPANA CHINA ANKAIAH and his brothers donated considerable amounts.

In August 1967, the college commenced its operations  with the first three sections of P.U.C. and one each of B.A. and B.Com. Then in July 1968, the college became had a fully operating academic system in place with the addition of B.Sc. providing the popular combinations of M.P.C. & C.B.Z. In 1969, the college introduced Two YEAR INTERMEDIATE COURSES in Science, Arts and commerce in the place of P.U.C.

It was in July 1987 the college received academic autonomy. Re-structured courses in B.Sc. and B.A. were started with M.P.AC., M.P.E., and E.P.P. & E.C.F. combinations.

After completion of five years, the management decided to give up Autonomy from the academic year 1993-94 and the college came under Non-Autonomous regulations. Currently, the college follows the rules and regulations of Andhra University in all academic matters and examinations.

The people from the surrounding villages have contributed a lot for the development of the college throughout these years. At present, there are about 2000 students and 80 Faculty members.

Courses in Physics, graduate courses with M.P.C. & Computer Science in English medium since the 40th year of its inception. English medium has been introduced at the Intermediate level in this year for M.P. Group.
