About Rupahi College

Rupahi College, Nagaon was established on 10th August, 1981. The college is located along the Nagaon Laokhowa road at a distance of 14 kilometers from Nagaon at the centre of Assam.
 
The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati in 1994 and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade with 2.63 CGPA.

The Socio Economic disadvantaged and marginalised people of all communities mainly of linguistic and religious minority communities inhabiting the vast rural hinterland bordering the Laokhowa Wild Life Sanctuary and the mighty Brahmaputra in the North-West of Nagaon aspired to have a college of their own.

A few leading citizens and social workers of the area zealously pursued this cherished aim of educating the disadvantaged rural youth and specially the girls and women folk of the area getting a feel of the beckon light of higher education.

It developed as a single faculty Arts college with ten departments of studies, bringing under its fold both the H.S. and Degree courses. It was brought under Deficit Grant-in-aid system by the Government of Assam in 1996.

Seeing the vast potentiality of the institution, it is wished by the NAAC team that the college will have a promising future provided if all wings connected to the college come together in true spirit and dedication for its development.

Goal and Objectives:

 The key aims and objectives of the College are :-

  • To provide ample opportunity of higher education to the Socio Economically disadvantaged and marginalised linguistic and religious communities inhabiting in its catchments area
  • To train the students in such a way that would open up employment and self employment prospects for them
  • To empower and ensure the vertical mobility of the marginalized girls and women folk of the catchments area with the beckon light of higher education
  • To create an ideal ambience for inculcation of scientific enquiry, democratic and true liberal and humanitarian ethos among the learners
  • To harness the rich dividends of indigenous knowledge base and technology and forge ahead with the latest scientific technologies for the greater interest of the masses living in the catchments area
  • To facilitate, continued academic progress and professional advancement in all spheres
  • To impart and imbibe positive values among the youths and to enhance and widen the better scope for the aspirants comprising both the poor students and employed school teachers
  • To train and shape the young minds to undertake scientific and thorough study of Socio-Economic trend and changes
  • To facilitate the effective running of the teaching-learning programmes
  • To cater individual needs of the learners for their all-round development

Rules and Regulations at Rupahi College, Nagaon:

  • A candidate seeking admission to the college in the first years HS / Degree certificates must follow the rules & apply in the prescribed form
  • The college is committed to lay maximum emphasis on discipline and character building aspects of the students community.

    The students are supposed to follow the rules and regulations of the college

  • Breach of rules like irregular attendance, irregular clearance of college dues, objectionable activities, unruly behavior in the college premises in any form etc will be some of the major offences which may invite disciplinary action like deprivation from scholarship, compulsory transfer and even expulsion from the college
  • All other associations including the Students Union shall be subject to the direct control of the college administration
  • No notice can be pasted or circulated by the students within the college premises without the prior approval of the Principal of the college
  • The college is very much aware of the curse of ragging in the temple of learning in any form. So ragging is strictly prohibited in the college
  • Students are required to extend the due regard for rights and properties of the institution. Any student found guilty of tampering / damaging the properties, furniture, books, equipments etc. of the college is liable to punishment by the authority
  • The grievance redressed cell of the college will take up the grievances of all concerned those who opt. for it
  • In case of disciplinary matters, the principal of the college is the chief executive authority and he or his teams' decision shall be treated final in all such matters
  • The students of the college shall have to abide by the uniform of the college
  • No student will be allowed to sit for any final examination if he / she fails to attend required number of unit test and test examination of the college including the attendance required as per U.G.C. norms

 

  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff with special coaching.
  • The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab & play ground etc.
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed.
  • The college has well equipped with Laboratories. Laboratory has facilities for both statistical and psychological experiments to be performed with apparatus.
  • Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs.
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • The college provides facilities for NSS to inculcate the sense of dignity of labour among students and to develop work culture in them.
  • The college has been trying to start NCC from last few years under centrally sponsored scheme subject to the permission of the Directorate but not yet. But to hope for it.
  • The college considers its own responsibility for sensitizing the student community towards their civic responsibilities. Activities and experience gathered during cleanliness drives, plantation and social works etc. by NSS, Students Union etc. to prepare the students to be responsible citizen for future.
  • There is a provision of Grievance Redressal Cell in the college which assists the principal in studying and processing the feed backs of the students and discussions are held to under take necessary steps towards redressal and improvisation.
  • The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds.
  • Special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships
