About Regional Institute of English, South India
Regional Institute of English, South India (RIESI), Bengaluru Urban was established in 1963 as a society through a Memorandum of Association registered under the Mysore Society Regulation Act 17 of 1960.
It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
It is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and approved by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi.
The Memorandum of Association was signed among others by:
- Education Secretary, Government of Mysore
- Education Secretary, Government of Kerala
- Education Secretary, Government of Madras
- Education Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh
- Deputy Educational Adviser, Ministry of Education, Government of India
As per the decision was taken at a meeting of the Education Secretaries and Directors of Public Instruction of the States of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mysore (now Karnataka) and Madras (now Tamil Nadu) in the chambers of Education Secretary, Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru on 12th November 1962 at 3.00 p.m.
The Institute functions under the direction and control of the Board of Governors which comprises the Education Secretaries of the four member states and a nominee of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The office of the Chairman of the Board is held by rotation for a period of one official year by one of the Education Secretaries of the four states. Presently Mr. Rajkumar Khatri IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Primary and Secondary Education, Karnataka is the Chairman of the Board.
The RIESI is set amidst sylvan surroundings in the sprawling campus of Jnanabharathi (Bengaluru University). It is 10 km's away from the heart of the city. The lush green and serene environs of the Institute campus provide a conducive atmosphere for learning.
The aim of the institute is to improve the standards of teaching of English in primary & secondary schools in the four states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and to conduct regular and need based courses in the English language.
The college offers Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Certificate courses.

Mission:
- To improve the standards of teaching of English in Primary and Secondary schools in the four states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu
- To train teachers
- To undertake and facilitate conferences, seminars, etc.,
- To prepare suitable textbooks, guidance and other materials for teachers at various levels
- To afford help to the four states in drawing up the syllabus in English
- To undertake research studies in ELT
- To conduct regular and need based courses in the English language

- The Institute has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The Institute also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The Institute consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
