Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal was established in July 1963 by the Government of India under  Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Barkatullah University, Bhopal and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 7th July 1964 under Act, 1956. 

It is recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhopal & Govt. of Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) to offer B.Ed., M.Ed. & D.Ed. courses.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade (CGPA Score 3.53 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 16th September 2016.

The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bhopal played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

RIEs is an Autonomous, Constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi which was established in 1961.

NCERT has comprehensive extension programme in which departments of the National Institute of Education (NIE), CIET, Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs), Central Institute of Vocational Education (CIVE) are engaged in extension activities.

The RIEs are located at:

• RIE, Ajmer - Northern Region
• RIE, Bhopal - Western Region
• RIE, Bhubaneswar - Eastern Region
• RIE, Mysore - Southern Region
• NE-RIE Shillong - North Eastern Region

Along with this, a Demonstration Multipurpose School is attached to each RIE at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Mysore as a laboratory for preparation of teachers and for trying out innovative practices in school education and teacher education.

The Institute looks after teacher education and other educational requirements of the States of Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and UTs of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The college also received the many achievements awards in the field of Teacher Training under Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college offers two years Master of Education (M.Ed.) course for those who have completed their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from the recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the graduation level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college also offers two years Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or Elementary Teacher Training (E.T.T.) course for those who have completed their intermediate with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized college/university under the affiliating university State Council of Educational Research Training (SCERT), Bhopal.

Students here are admitted who completed their intermediate from recognized college/university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the intermediate level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college also offers four years undergratudate courses in Bachelor of Science in Education (B.Sc.Ed.) and Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A.Ed.) under the affiliating university.

It also offers Add-On Diploma courses.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Barkatullah University, Bhopal, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and a fair method of admission.
