Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru was established on 1st August 1963  is one of five such institutions established by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. The other Institutes are located at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Shillong.

It is affiliated to University of Mysore, Mysuru and caters to the needs of South Indian states namely Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Union Territories of Pondicherry and Lakshadweep.

The college is providing Integrated, Undergraduates and Postgraduates level courses and approved by National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), Bengaluru.

Regional Institute of Education, Mysore is a constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

The Regional Institute main the objective is a qualitative improvement of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service teacher training programs and relevant research, development and extension activities.The school serves as an epicenter for trying out new and innovative strategies in curriculum and pedagogy.

Pre-service professional training programmes are offered to prepare school teachers for the teaching of different school subjects. These are Regional Resource Institutions for school and teacher education and they extend assistance in implementing the policies of the States/UTs and help in monitoring and evaluation of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes.

RIE has a strong team of faculty members who have proven excellence in teaching and research. RIE work closely with the Ministry of Human Resource Development in implementing various Government of India initiatives in school education.

Regional Institute of Education, Mysore currently offers seven programmes including the Ph.D. programme. The Demonstration Multipurpose School is also an integral part of the Institute and serves as a laboratory of the Institute for carrying out action research, practice teaching, experimentation and innovation in school education.

The institute is located on a sprawling,  picturesque, 120-acre campus and has an excellent ambiance for higher studies, research and extension activities.

The institute is well equipped with modern infrastructure in tune with the requirements of the modern world.

The institute has students from different parts of the country pursuing different courses and they live together as one community. This is indeed a wonderful opportunity to experience multiculturalism in its true sense and feel the unity in diversity leading to national integration. The institute has celebrated its Golden Jubilee year starting in August 2012.
