About Rangapara College

Rangapara College, Sonitpur was established in 1979. It is one of the premier institution situated in the village Amaribari, about 40 Kms away from the District head quaters of Sonitpur District and surrounded by lush green tea plantation of Phulbari, Amaribari, Hatibari and Nahorani Tea Estate.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati in 1994 and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956 on 20th March, 1996. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade in 2011 with 2.18 CGPA.

The college has a spacious campus of 41 acres. It has a large play ground comprising a Football ground, Cricket ground, Volleyball court, Basket ball court and a Badminton court. A sports complex is being built with UGC assistance for all the indoor games.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Commerce stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Commerce stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

  • To explore the local potential of social environment and integrate it to the various courses of study which are done through University Curriculum
  • To adopt modern and innovative means of education to make it relevant to social, national and global needs
  • To promote among the students the sense of national feeling towards an integrated society which seems to be threatened by domestic and international conspiracy especially in this isolated North-Eastern region
  • To promote social harmony and economic awareness through field work especially among Tea-Tribes and Bodo Tribes whose upliftment is necessary for removing regional imbalance which is the result of unplanned economy and human resources
  • To promote health awareness and environmental awareness among the members of the society and student community by engaging professionals as a measure towards a better and healthy society

Rules & Regulations at Rangapara College, Sonitpur:

  • College Uniform is compulsory for all students.

    Students not in proper uniform will not be allowed entry to the college

  • Every bonafide student will be issued college identity card at the time of admission which must be renewed in the begining of every ascademic session. Entry to the college will not be allowed without I Card
  • Students admitted to the college must follow the rules and regulations of the college strictly. Irregular attendance, violation of rules, misconduct in any form, adopting unfairmeans at the examination, smoking and consuming liquor and drugs will be treated as serious offences leading to suspension or even expulsion from the college
  • Ragging is strictly prohibited. Students found indulging Ragging in any form will be expelled from the college
  • Students failing to attend classes for 15 (fifteen) days at a stretch in the first month of commencement of classes shall forfeit their seats
  • A student shall have to attend 75% of class in each subject held during the session Otherwise he / she will not be allowed to appear in the test and final Examinations. Attendance is strictly taken into account for the purpose of promotion, academic awards and scholarship
  • Terminal, Internal Assessment and Unit Test are compulsory to all students which will be held regularly on time
  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, play ground, canteeen & hostel etc.
  • The college has a spacious library comprising an area of 2500 sq feet with a sitting capacity of 40 readers. The library has a good collection of 18,579 text, reference and other books with 17 no of journals and magazine, Daily 10 news papers in English, Assamese, Hindi, Bengali and in Bodo are also regularly subscribed
  • The college will provide hostel sits to a limited number of students. Allocation of hostel seats will be made strictly on merit basis. In exceptional cases the distance of the residence of the student to college may be considered
  • Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • The college has a canteen within the campus for refreshment of the students and teachers
  • The college has provided spacious seperate common room facilities for both boys and girl students
  • Adequate number of water cooler are provided in the college campus for cool and pure drinking water
  • College organises cultural competition among the students. The successful students are awarded prizes at annual college week prize distribution ceremony. Moreover the college has been participating in Youth Festival organised by Guahati University, Guwahati.
  • A magazine is published by the college every year where students and teachers get opportu­nity to show their skill in creative writing
  • All students may come forward for the membership of health centre and take part in all activities, programs like blood donation, Health checkup etc. organised by the centre
  • The college has organised a nature club for academic and sociocultural activities in which the students from each class can take part. This Club will organise, educational tour and programme, awareness programme against Killing of wild life, Deforestation and environmental issue
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
