Radha Govinada (R.G.) Baruah College, Kamrup is popualrly known as R. G. Baruah College was established in 1978 with the noble objective of spreading the light of higher education amongst the students of Kalapahar - Fatasil locality, quite a number of who belong to economically backward families.
The college was named after Xingha Purusa Radha Govinda Baruah whose contribution in the fields of newspaper industry, sports organization, and cultural activities, is unparalleled in Assam. He is known as the Architect of Modern Assam. It is essentially his ideals that the college aspires to follow.
The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is
accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.
It is a promising institution offering both Arts and Commerce courses under Gauhati University, Guwahati for Degree classes and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati for Higher Secondary courses.
The college is located on the southern part of Guwahati city at Fatasil-Ambari on the A.K. Deb Road, which connects Bharalumukh with the National Highway 37 bypass at Garchuk, and lies at a distance of about 25 kms from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, Borjhar, and 4 kms from the Guwahati Railway Station.
The college was brought under the deficit Grants-in-Aid system in the year 1990 and Arts stream was provincialised by the Govt. of Assam in 2006 and Commerce stream was provincialised in 2013.
At present it has fourteen departments under both the Arts and Commerce streams, and also offers courses in Computer Application and Information Technology Performing Arts and Environmental Studies. It imparts education to more than fifteen hundred students annually.
R. G. Baruah College has certainly grown in stature over the years and is counted as one of the premier co-educational institutions of the city.
Since its establishment, the college has come a long way in meeting the emerging needs and challenges of the present day scenario.
The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Commerce stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Commerce stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.
College Emblem:
The college emblem, designed to represent the perspectives and aspirations of the college portrays the swan in flight as its central figure. The Swan, the “Vahana” of the goddess Saraswati stands as the symbol of knowledge and its flight as the spreading of knowledge. The quill in its beak signifies the respect for traditional values and the veena on its back signifies the enhancement of the aesthetic qualities. The illuminated earthen lamp in the backdrop signifies enlightenment. The rays which comprise the boundary of the emblem signify the aspiration to spread knowledge in all directions.
Motto:
“Tamaso ma jyotigramoy” (Devanagari script). It is an invocation to lead us to light from darkness, to knowledge from ignorance, and to a wider perspective from a myopic outlook. It is in accordance with the aim of the college which is to provide quality education to the students, thereby enabling them to meet the changing demands of higher education in society.

Rules and Regulations at Radha Govinada (R.G.) Baruah College, Kamrup:
- Emphasis is laid on discipline and character building and students are expected to maintain a high standard of discipline in and outside the college campus
- The college premises is a Mobile Free zone for students.
Any student found using mobile inside college premises except the college canteen will have to pay fine/punishment as decided by the authority
- The students admitted to the college must abide by all rules and regulations prescribed by the college authority. Violation of rules may make students liable for disciplinary action like termination of scholarship, forced transfer and even expulsion from the college
- Pleasant and cordial atmosphere should be maintained during college hours
- Gossiping and loitering either in the verandahs or in the class rooms are strictly prohibited when classes or examinations are going on
- Intoxicants including panmasala, guthka, smoking and spitting in the class-rooms are strictly prohibited
- Postering or writing on the walls or blackboards of the college is strictly prohibited
- When there is no class, students are to develop a habit of reading newspapers, journals, magazines etc. in the reading room of the library
- Property of the college is the property of all. Damage of any property will lead to severe punishment
- Use of unfair means in the examination hall will be strictly dealt with and lead to severe action and punishment
- Regularity and punctuality in attending classes must be maintained
- Irregularities, misbehavior, violence of any kind and disobedience towards the teachers or authority by any students are punishable
- Violation of rules and regulations and committing of any offence which will jeopardize the interest and smooth administration of the college, will lead to severe punishment and the Principal of the college has full power to impose it. The decision of the Principal in this respect is binding and final
- Uniform with Logo is compulsory for all students
- In every semester, each student is required to attend a minimum of 75% of the total lectures delivered in each subject to be eligible for appearing in the Council / University Examinations.
Students with attendance below 75% will have to pay Non-collegiate fees
- If a student fails to attend classes for one month at a stretch from the date of commencement of classes his /her seat is liable to be forfeited
- Students who remain absent to represent college in NCC, NSS and extra curricular activities in University / State / National / International level meets and on medical grounds will have to compensate his / her loss through extra classes and sessional examination on the consent of respective teacher
- Students should in their own interest read all the notices displayed on the Notice Board from time to time and be fully aware of the information provided therein.
- College Uniform with Identity Card is compulsory for all students. No student is permitted to wear any dress other than the college uniform in the college premises
- The Teacher-Guardian meetings are held regularly in the college according to the convenience of the college authority
