Punjab University ,Department of Biotechnology  was established   in 1989.

Its affiliated to Punjab University.

It was upgraded upto the level of fully fledged department. The department was the first to start the B.sc (Honors, school) Biotechnology in North India.  

Since 1996 the faculty has been awarded several research projects by DBT, DST, UGC, and CSIR & ICMR and has produced several PhDs.

The faculty of the department publishes research papers in national and international journals on regular basis.

Every year Workshop/Symposium/Seminar dealing with state of art technologies is organized wherein scientists of international repute are invited to deliver lectures.
