About Pramathesh Barua College

Pramathesh Barua College, Gauripur popularly known as P. B. College was established on 1st June, 1964. It is one of the premier & co-educational institution of higher education was subsequently taken over by the Govt. Assam under deficit Grants-in-Aid system in 1969.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956 on 22nd October, 1969. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2004.

It is named after the multifaced genius of Indian cinema the proud son of Gauripur, Late Rajkumar Pramathesh Chandra Barua with Dr. Birendra Nath Datta as the founder principle.

The plots land were donated by the Gauripur Royal Family. The district in which the institution stands is one of the most backward districts of Assam inhabited mostly by the farmers and toiling masses.

To keep pace with the changing scenario,  development of trade and commerce and for demand of the leading citizens of the locality Commerce Stream was introduce in 1979.

Though the college stands in a most poverty stricken district of Assam, it has been able to earn laurels as a Unique center of learning in thefield of higher education. As an institution of higher education in a rural area, it has to bear the responsibility of carrying the hopes and aspirations of the people.

P. B. College is committed to institutionalize the culture of quality and ensure academic accountability while pursuing its continued journey for excellence.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Commerce stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Commerce stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses.

Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

  • To cater quality education especially to the women folk; strive to boost the academic environment by making teaching-learning more enjoyable and satisfying; reaffirm its responsiveness to social accountability; nurture the spirit of democracy, peace and progress in society; and will collaborate with other stakeholders of higher education to make quality the defining element of its academic system

Rules and Regulations at Pramathesh Barua College, Gauripur:

  • Students must abide by rules and regulations of the college violation of which shall invite disciplinary action against them
  • No student shall be admitted to any course of studies if he / she is found to have indulged in activities detrimental to academic interest
  • Any student who is found to have indulged in consumption of drugs or intoxicating drinks, gambling, ragging or in any form of immoral and illegal activities shall invite stringent disciplinary action
  • Attendance of students in classes is mandatory. Class attendance shall be counted every month. Students failing to attend 75% of total classes taken in a session shall be treated as non-collegiate as per GU rules. Such students shall not be allowed to contest election to Students Union nor shall be qualified for any scholarship
  • Students having less than 60% of total class attendance in any individual subject shall not be considered for promotion and they shall be debarred from appearing any examination
  • Students showing discourtesy to the teachers and employees in any form, adopting unfair means in Examination, using Mobile phone in classroom and examination hall
  • Damaging college property shall be liable for disciplinary action
  • The decision of the Executive Body (Governing Body) on all matters relating to students indiscipline shall be final and binding
  • Students are expected to use College property with utmost care and help to keep the college campus neat and tidy
  • The College follows the Academic Calendar of GU for UG course and that of AHSEC for HS class.

    However, the academic session of the College shall run as per its own

  • Students admitted to various courses of studies are required to participate instructions (lectures, group discussions, tutorials, seminars and other academic activities) as prescribed and shall be expected to participate in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities organized by the college. They are also required to participate in the evaluation process as prescribed by the Authority. Students who fail to do so without assigning sufficient reasons to the satisfaction of the competent authority shall not be permitted to continue their studies
  • In case of loss of Identity Card / Library Card, students are to immediately report to the college authority and get duplicate card(s) on payment of prescribed fees
  • Wearing the college uniform is mandatory during college hours on all working days
  • Ragging is strictly prohibited and anyone found guilty of ragging and/ or abetting ragging, whether actively or passively or being a part of a conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished in accordance with the UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 as well as under the provisions of any penal law in force

 

  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and getting a good results
  • The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, canteen & hostel etc.
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • The college has Girls Hostel facility within the college premises. Hostel seats are allotted after admission on the basis of merit and first come first serve basis.
  • Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • There are separate common rooms for boys & girls with adequate facilities
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • The college have a career guidance cell which provides lot of information about employment opportunity. Career counselors are invited to point out about various course contents and job opportunity for benefit of the students
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
  • The college maintains a students’ welfare fund to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
  • Special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships
