Pragathi MahaVidyalaya, Hyderabad was established in 1930. Its affiliated to Osmania University.

It has been managed by Shri Gujarati Pragati Samaj, which is a trust.

The college is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Osmania University. The college is accredited by NAAC with A grade and recognized by UGC.

Sri Gujarati Pragati Samaj, Hyderabad, with a desire to render educational, humanitarian and social service has been rendering yeoman service in various walks of life. With a modest beginning over six decades ago, these activities have grown by leaps and bounds. The Samaj has a string of educational institutions in the Twin cities, the first one being Sri Gujarati Vidya Mandir which was started in the year 1930.

1930 - Start with a small service

Sri Gujarati Pragati Samaj, Hyderabad, with a desire to render educational, humanitarian and social service has been rendering yeoman service in various walks of life. With a modest beginning over six decades ago, these activities have grown by leaps and bounds. The Samaj has a string of educational institutions in the Twin cities, the first one being Sri Gujarati Vidya Mandir which was started in the year 1930.

1970 - The Pragati Maha Vidyalaya junior college was started with a moderate strength of 43 students in 1969-70 with the munificent donation made by Sri Tokarshi Lalji Kapadia Public Charitable Trust.

1973 - The Degree College with commerce course was started in 1973 with the generous donation by M.C.Modi Educatinal Trust. The present premises located in the heart of the city was purchased by the Samaj in the year 1974 and both the colleges were shifted to this premises in the same year from the rented buildings situated at Nampally. During the last two decades, the management has spent more than one crore of rupees on the construction of the buildings and at present there are 70 halls to conduct the classes, besides a vast open area with an administrative complex and well equipped laboratories for Electronics,Physics and Computers.

The new office complex was added this year. We can boast of having one of the best computer labs in twin cities.

1982 - Science Course were started - The college started a restructured B.Sc. courses with Mathematics, Physics and Electronics in the year 1981 – 82. This course could be introduced at this college because of the gracious donation given by Late Sri Dayabhai Desai of Ashok Brothers and M.C.Modi Educational trust. The University Grants Commission also provided financial assistance to this course. This college has the unique privilege of starting M.Com course from the academic year 1982 – 83, the first in the private sector M.B.A was started in the year 1987.

2011 - The BBA Course was stared in year 2011 – 2012. The total strength of BBA is above 180.
