Poornaprajna College, Udupi was popularly known PPC, Udupi established on 15th July 1960.
The college was founded by the Swamijis of eight Mathas of Udupi. But, in February 1962, with a view to streamlining the day-to-day working of the institution, its maintenance and governance were handed over to Admar Matha Education Council, a registered society functioning under the leadership of H. H. Sri Sri Sri Vibudhesha Theertha Swamiji of Admar Matha. Now, the Council is functioning under the leadership of H. H. Sri Sri Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Sri Admar Matha.
It is situated in a vast green campus at the heart of Udupi city. It is within a short distance of 1 KM from Udupi Bus Stand, 4 KMs from Udupi Railway Station and about 45 KMs from Mangaluru airport.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
It is affiliated to Mangalore University, Mangaluru and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 26th May 1981 & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.19 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 22nd February 217.
Initially, the college provided courses in Arts and Commerce streams. In 1963, Science subjects were introduced at the Pre-University level. Two years later, Science stream was started at the degree level.
Ten years later, in 1975, Management studies were introduced at the degree level. In 2001, the Pre-University courses were detached from the college and transferred to the newly established Poornaprajna Unaided Pre-University College.
In its early days, the college had the privilege of having eminent scholars and writers like Prof. V.M. Inamdar, Dr. Shankar Mokasi Punekar, Prof.
Gopalakrishna Adiga and Dr. P. Narayana Rao as its Principals.
After these Titans, the tradition was continued by able administrators such as Prof. K.G. Tantry, Prof. Sripathi Upadhya, Prof. H. Shivarama Shetty, Prof. Sudhakar Rao, Prof. M. Subrahmanya, Prof. N. B. Dixit, Dr. S. L. Karnik, Prof. A. K. Halapet, Dr. N.A. Madyastha, Prof. S. Subhashchandra and Prof. Rajmohan and Prof.K.Sadashiva Rao. Presently Dr. B. Jagadeesh Shetty is heading the institution.
The year 2009-10 is the 50th year, was celebrated as the Golden Jubilee Year. To commemorate the golden jubilee year celebration, an indoor stadium complex was constructed.
The college has been conferred the "Award of Excellence" by Udupi Chamber of Commerce & Industry on 10th June 2012 for being the best college in Udupi district in the category of "Advanced Education" for the year 2011.
At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams with various specializations and offers two years postgraduate courses in Commerce and Science stream with some popular specializations under Mangalore University, Mangaluru
