Pithapur Rajah’s (P.R.) Govt. College, Kakinada was established in August, 1844. It one of the premier and oldest college in India established by Sri Rajah Rao Venkata Mahipathi, Gangadhara Rama Rao, Bahadur.

The college is affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade.

Brief History:

P.R College has two campuses, Science College campus is near main road and Arts College campus with sprawling grounds of nearly 28 acres is situated near Government General Hospital.

McLaren High School is on the eastern side, District Collectors Office, Zillaparishad and C B M School are on the western side of P.R. College. P.R. College is the first college to encourage women’s education with total exemption of fee for girl students.

Girl students were given many incentives to pursue their higher education. In 1952, when the college was taken over by the Government, it became P.R Govt. college. This century old college had its centenary celebrations in March, 1984.

The college was started as a middle school in 1853 and later became a full-fledged college. It was granted autonomous status by the UGC with the approval of University & Govt. of A.P. in May 2000 and extended upto 2014 by the UGC after making review of autonomous system.

The college offers three years Degree Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce stream under Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry. It also offers some PG Courses, Vocational, Career Oriented Courses & Add On Courses.

Rules and Regulations at Pithapur Rajah’s (P.R) Govt.

College, Kakinada:

• ID card must be worn by the students at all times while on campus
• The use of Cell Phones is strictly banned inside the classrooms and on the corridors
• Any kind of unruly behaviour, physical violence, harassment of women, and damage to college property will be dealt with very severely by the college
• Students are expected to be dressed neatly in formals or semi-formals that is appropriate for an educational institution. Any forms of vulgarity, obscenity of dress with offensive wordings are strictly banned on campus
• Motorised Vehicles of students should be parked only at the allotted space near the main gate
• Every student shall pay the whole fee each year if her / his name is on the rolls of the institutions
• Although an attendance of 75% is sufficient for being admitted to the Semester end examinations, the college insists on regular attendance at all classes
• Ragging is prohibited within & outside (infront) of the campus
