Patkai Christian College, Dimapur was established on 23rd August 1974 and managed by Nagaland Baptist Church Council and Manipur Baptist Convention which was established in August 1974.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Nagaland University, Kohima and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on 22nd July 2010 under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 5th September 1998 under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.26 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 19th January 2016.

The college was one of the Christian liberal arts colleges was provisionally affiliated with the North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. But later affiliated with the Nagaland University, Kohima

It is a co-educational autonomous Institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of a northeast region of Dimapur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college has been newly shifted to Dimapur. Before it was shifted in Patkai. The college now has two campuses-old and new-with two separate entrances.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has conferred the status as 'Autonomous' by the UGC on 23rd August 2005 and awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 22nd July 2010.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Managment streams with various specializations also offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Nagaland University, Kohima. Also, It also offers Diploma and Add-On Certificate courses.

Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.
