About Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science
Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, South Goa was established on 20th June 1986. It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates by providing courses in Arts and Science at the Graduate, and Postgraduate and Ph.D. levels.
The college is affiliated to Goa University, North Goa and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.41 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) in the year 2014.
The only college in Goa to be Autonomous. The Goa University, North Goa adjudged the college as the “Best Affiliated College” at the time of its Silver Jubilee in the year 2009. Chowgule College was also awarded the Best Educational Institute award by Business Goa at their award ceremony awards for Corporate Excellence in 2014.
To achieve excellence in education the college decided to go for Academic Autonomy and it was granted by UGC and Goa University, North Goa in August 2014. Autonomy will provide academic freedom to the college to design its own programs, courses, methods of instruction and the evaluation system. Autonomy will promote healthy practices such as community service and extension activities for the benefit of society.
Under Autonomy, the college has proposed Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and the semester pattern of study. The main thrust is to develop skills for employment through internships.
To sum up, the college is marching towards global leadership in imparting relevant education of high standards in a disciplined and conducive environment. Chowgule College has been a pioneer in higher education since Goa’s liberation. The college believes that constant renewal is the key to excellence. The path forward sees us building the community and assisting in nation building by imparting quality higher education.
The college offers three years undergraduate program in Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) & Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) courses affiliated with Goa University, North Goa.
- The college has an attractive, campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
- The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and with good results
- The college has the most eminent Faculty members and they are really well qualified, experienced and truly committed towards enhancement and development of the students
- The institution is working with a shining sun, the spectrum which is radiating in all possible directions
- The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, seminar halls, multipurpose halls & playground etc.
- A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college
- The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
- State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
- Internet may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart for this Raging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment
- For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals
