P.K. Roy Memorial College, Dhanbad was established in 1961.

It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag and therefore it is a constituent part of this university and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.58 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 10th December 2014.

A long cherished academic brainchild of the illustrious Roy family of Keshalpur House Katrasgrah, P.K. Roy Memorial College emerged in its infancy in 1948 lay the endeavors.

Sri Buto Krishto Roy.It had to wait till 1960 when the college, combating numerous odds, got well-equipped with requisite amenities and adequate infrastructure to cater to the educational need of the aspirants for higher education Dhanbad Koyalanchal.

Sri Buto Krishto Roy named the college after his departed father Late Prasanna Kr Roy. It was Sri Bijoli Kant Roy, who, after the demise of his father, Buto Kristo Roy, took the onus of developing the college with all sincerity and dedication with unprecedented, peerless zeal to propel the college to the dizzy heights of glory and glamor. It was under his patronage that P.K.Roy College Touched new heights and gained new dimensions.

The college gained its constituent status in the year 1977 under Ranchi Unversity, Ranchi. Since, then, it has been on the spree of producing gems and laurels in academic arena despite all bottlenecks.

The college caters to the academic need of the students from U.G with Honors in almost all subjects of Arts, Commerce, and Science to P.G students in all the three faculties.

Today, it has got the honors of becoming prominent P.G.

College in V.B.U, University, Self-financed professional courses like Bio-Technology, Environmental Science, Human rights, Crisis & Conflict Management etc. are also being taught in the college.

The college offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams under Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. The college is also providing Honours teaching in vocational subjects.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi & Nalanda Open University, Patna for offering various UG, PG, & Certificate Courses.
