Olaver College, Kendrapara established in 1974, is located at Olaver village in the District of Kendrapara, Odisha.

Olaver is a small commercial centre and is a flood-prone delta region surrounded by two perennial rivers, Baitarani and Kharoswrota. The absence of any institution of higher education and the growing need for same, particularly women's education, led some enlightened individuals in the locality to establish the Olaver College in 1974.

The college is affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in 1977 and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956 in September 2003. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in July 2005.

The college started with the Intermediate course (I.A.). Subsequently, the degree course (B.A.) was introduced in 1980 with affiliation from the University. Since the introduction of the 10+2+3 pattern in 1983, the college is conducting both the Higher Secondary (Arts and Commerce) and the Degree courses in Arts & Commerce subjects. The college came under the state government's Grant-in-Aid Scheme in 1984.

The pre-degree H. S. course being outside the purview of NAAC, the same will have no bearing on the Peer-Team Report. Out of the five departments at the degree level (Oriya, English, Economics, History and Political Science), the departments of History and Political Science provide the Honours course. Honours course in Oriya has been introduced in 2005 and the same in English and Economics will be introduced from 2006-07 session, as the permission has already been obtained.

At present, the college has 13 full-time teachers for the degree courses. There are 6 vacant teaching positions in the degree section, in Oriya, English, History and Economics wing to the vacant positions resulting from the delay from the Govt. end, the management of the college appointed 3 teachers on contractual basis to ensure conduct of regular classes.
