About NVKSD College of Education

NVKSD College of Education, Attoor was established in 1963. Its managed under Nalloor Vettuvenni Kandan Sastha.

With all the blessings of Lord Dharma Sastha, the trustees of the Nalloor Vettuvenni Kandan Sastha Devaswom established a pioneer educational venture in the year 1963. It is trust that administers a famous private temple, named Nalloor Vettuvenni Kandan Sastha Temple. The Temple is situated near the banks of the river, Thamirabarani. The College is situated at Attoor, a rural area surrounded by a chain of villages, rivers and foot hills, a citadel of education, culture and renaissance.

The N.V.K.S. Devaswom Committee with a clear mission and vision under the able leadership of the then President Sri. K.P. Rama Krishna Pillai decided in October 1961 to utilize the excess fund of the N.V.K.S. Devaswom trust for some social and educational purpose and as a result of that a teacher education institution was established a long felt need of Kanyakumari District.

In the year 1963, the Syndicate of the University of Madras granted provisional affiliation to the college and it started functioning from 8th July 1963 with strength of 60 students.

The College is co-educational and presently it has the strength of 162 (100 students for B.Ed, 50 for M.Ed and 12 for M.Phil) students on its roll. Initially the college offered instructions in four optional subjects namely English, Mathematics, History and Natural Science. Subsequently two more optional subjects namely  Physical Science & Early Child hood Education were introduced.
