North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), North Lakhimpur was established in 1952, has successfully carved its niche in the arena of higher education in Assam.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade.

Brief History:

The founders aspired to enhance socio-cultural development of various ethnic groups, create scientific temperament, enhance employability of students and promote gender equality. Immensely concerned about the welfare as well as the intellectual and ethical development of the students, the institution provides value education, coaching and remedial classes besides establishing forums for community development and extension activities, establishing Equal Opportunity Centre, Women’s Studies Centre etc.

The college is committed to raising standards of higher education in this part of North Eastern India and for us, offering high quality teaching is more than just a priority- it is our raison d’etre. The University Grants Commission was also conferred the status of College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) to the college in 2010 for a period of 5 years, further extended up to 2019. We are also the first autonomous college of the state.

North Lakhimpur College has proved to have the strategy to percolate the positive outcome of the innovations in teaching with an interdisciplinary approach. The gradual reform has made the college holistically efficient and credible both at the academic and administrative level. The learning is made student-centered by participatory learning activities through laboratory work; computer aided learning programmes, audio visual aids, project and field works, training programmes and study tours.

To further the usages of information technology among students, the college has established two state of art Computer and Networking Centres with 50 internet browsing terminals besides encouraging the use of ICT tools in the teaching learning process.

The campus have wifi connectivity. A state of the art language laboratory is also there. The thrust area identified in consonance with the CPE guidelines is to affect a paradigm shift in the knowledge delivery system. We visualize, in the immediate future, a smooth transition to digital learning without sacrificing the strengths of the conventional class room.

The college has a main campus with a total area of 25 acres of land with compound wall all around and good infrastructure facilities for academic, administrative and co curricular activities which include, adequate number of class rooms, well-equipped laboratories, library and reading room, administrative block, botanical garden, playground, gymnasium hall, canteen and parking facilities. The Arts Building is being extended to meet the demands of the students.

The college strongly believes that its primary stake holders are students. It also understands the geographic, socio-demographic, economic and educational background of the people of this region. The college intends to provide quality education to all keeping in view the intelligence and economic status of the students. Whereas special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Directorate of Distance Education Dibrugarh University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.
