About North Gauhati College

North Guwahati College, Gawhati was established in 1962 as an Arts college at North Guwahati in Kamrup (Rural) District in the state of Assam.

It is one of the prestigious Institutions in North Eastern region of the country in the field of teaching, learning and research. The college is situated at North Guwahati on the north bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra at a distance of about 4Km from IIT Guwahati in Kamrup (Rural) District, Assam.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2004.

The college was brought under Grants-in-Aid system of the Government of Assam during the year of 1969. The college was provincialised as per the Assam College Provincialisation Act 2005.

Science stream in this college was started in the year 1979. Now, it has become a full-fledged institution of higher learning providing UG courses in Science and Humanities.

Interestingly, the college completed its 50 years and Golden Jubilee was celebrated in the year 2012 in a befitting manner. During this 50-year period, the college has been able to fulfill the needs and demands of the rural people by imparting education.

With the changing scenario and consequent launching of a number of new educational policies, this institute sets its goal to provide scope and support for the upcoming generations in the field of Research and Skill-based quality Education.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati.

It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

  • To remove educational backwardness among the rural masses of North Guwahati in particular and the vast adjacent areas in general, and to provide them with an access to Higher Education, thereby giving them a social standing

Rules & Regulations at North Guwahati College, Gawhati:

  • Great emphasis is laid on discipline and character building.

    Students are expected to maintain a high standard of discipline

  • Students here admitted to the college must abide by all rules and regulations as prescribed by the college authority
  • Violation of rules, unsatisfactory progress, irregular attendance, irregular clearance of college dues, showing discourtesy to the teacher and staff members in any forms, adoption of unfair means during examination etc. are some of the offences which may lead to termination of scholarship, issue of forced transfer certificates and even expulsion from the college
  • All forms of ragging in the college campus are prohibited. Strong disciplinary action as indicated above may be taken if anyone is found to be involved directly or indirectly in ragging
  • The courses of study in North Gauhati College are full time courses. No student can take any other full time course simultaneously in and outside the institution. Students societies and associations shall have to abide by the rules and regulations as the college administration may prescribe from time to time
  • Only those societies and associations recognized by the Head of the institution shall have the facilities of the college premises
  • Any notice desired to be circulated by the students anywhere inthe college will need the prior approval of the college authority
  • All powers of maintaining discipline are vested on a Discipline Committee constituted by the Principal of the college
  • The committee’s decision shall be final in all such matters. Use of Mobile phones in the campus is strictly banned
  • Tobacco in any form is also prohibited in the campus
  • Wearing of uniform is compulsory and students must keep Identify Card with them in the college campus

 

 

  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and getting a good results.
  • The college has well-equipped with Administrative Block, Academic Block, full-flagged Computer Laboratory, Auditorium, Common Room, Library, Hostel, Play Ground & Canteen within the campus.
  • The library is well equipped with a good number of text books, reference materials, xerox facilities, internet with fully open access facilities automated with the help of library oriented software SOUL 2.08 (software for university library) network version. All bibliographic details of books, journals and CD-ROM databases are accessible through the computer.
  • Internet & Wi-Fi facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs.
  • There are separate common rooms for boys & girls with adequate facilities.
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • The college have a career guidance cell which provides lot of information about employment opportunity. Career counselors are invited to point out about various course contents and job opportunity for benefit of the students.
  • The college canteen provides refreshment to the students as well as faculty at subsidized rate within the campus.
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college.
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
  • Yoga cell was established in August 2014 with members from both the students and teaching faculty of the college. The main objective of the cell is to make students and people of the area aware of the importance of Yoga not only as a man-making, nation-building instrument but also as a tool for international peace, harmony and unity. The cell organizes training programmes on Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation as well as lectures and popular talks.   
  • A student welfare fund has been established in the college to provide some financial assistance to students coming from economically weaker section of the society. The welfare fund-committee determines the quantum of aid every year after considering all aspects.
