Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad was established under the state act and shall function to patient care and training in postgraduate degrees, graduate and degree diplomas (Medical, Paramedical and Nursing).

It also functions as a Referral Hospital.

The objectives of the institute are to create center of excellence for providing medical care, educational and research facilities of high order in the field of medical sciences in the existing super specialties and other super specialties as may develop in future including Continuing Medical Education and Hospital Administration.
