Nirmala Institute of Education, North Goa was established in June 1963 by the Society of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary in response to the then urgent need for trained teachers in post liberation Goa.

It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.

The college is affiliated to Goa University, North Goa and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) in 1975 & 1988 & also 12(B) in 1975 under Act, 1956.

It is also recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for B.Ed courses. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade on 24th September 2014 with CGPA of 2.84.

The main goal of the Nirmala Institute of Education was to provide the pedagogical bases for educational expansion through formal teacher education. This college, initially affiliated to the Bombay University, Mumbai grew into a highly respected institution providing pre- and in-service teacher education to thousands of teachers. In 1985 it was affiliated to the newly established Goa University, North Goa.

Forty-six years from its inception the college continues to serve the community with dedication. It offers a variety of courses in Education Through the College, efforts have always been made to conscientize the Teacher-trainees and make them aware of the religious, social and economic situation of the Country.

Within the campus the Institute has two hostels available for students (ladies) Nirmala Instituteof Education has identified a need to teach trainees the necessary skills for computer assisted learning so as to facilitate a renewal of the educational system in Goa towards learner directed classrooms away from the teacher directed factory schooling model.

To this end Nirmala Institute of Education has invested substantially in a computer facility with the best there is to offer in hardware, software and computer training modules.

This is a part of the ongoing commitment of the Institute to provide a client-driven service.

The Nirmala Education Society, which is the body that manages Nirmala Institute of Education provides other Educational Services and these include:
