National Engineering College (NEC), Kovilpatti was established in 1984.

It has been accredited by NBA, approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University of Technology, Tirunelveli.

National Engineering College(NEC), the most prominent landmark of Kovilpatti, has been the crowing glory of this Matchless City of Matches. Its celebrated "Somof the Soil" Thiru.L.Ramasamy transformed the entire social and cultural scenario in and around this small town by establishing the excellent educational institution popularly referred as "NEC". BY Wielding the magical wand of social commitment and munificence this foresighted philanthropist transformed a strip of barren land into a magnificent academic complex that has been consistently producing infallible engineers of high competence right from the day of its inception in 1984. This much-acclaimed temple of erudition was established under the self-financing scheme sanctioned by the Government of Tamilnadu G.O. 939 dated 20.07.1984 by the National Educational and Charitable Trust, Kovilpatti, Thoothukudi District.

The aim of the college is To Maintain standard of Excellence by simulating the process of continual improvement in Technical Education. The quality of the college is offered by a well-knit contingent of dedicated teaching faculty. The Management takes particular care to appoint persons of high academic excellence.

The college has signed MoU with research organizations and industries in order to promote closer interaction with other institutions in the areas of technology development, training of students, curriculum updating and development of state-of-art centers.
