About Namrup College

Namrup College, Dibrugarh was established in 1973. It is one of the premier institution for higher education in the region of Parbatpur, Dibrugarh Dist., Assam.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh in September 1979 and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

The college endeavors to create congenial educational environment and encourages the students for quality improvement, handwork, social awareness and protection of environment. The college was started with the faculties of Arts and Science.

The Arts stream came under Deficit Grants-in-aid system in 1986 and the science stream came under the same in 1992. After a prolonged struggle, it qualified itself for inclusion under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 on 14th Feb, 1997 and section 12(B) of the same Act on 4th April.

The college is located near the industrial township of Namrup which has four industrial establishments, viz. Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited, Assam Petrochemicals Ltd, Namrup Thermal Power Station and the Jeypore Colliery.Q

This township is surrounded by a large number of tea gardens and villages. The college is situated at a distance of 70kms from Dibrugarh Airport, three kilometers from Namrup Railway Station and two and half kilometers from the public and ASTC Bus Station.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Directorate of Distance Education Dibrugarh University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

Rules & Regulations at Namrup College, Dibrugarh:

  • Students admitted to this college must abide by the Rules & Regulations as prescribed by the college authority.

    Violation of rules, irregular attendance, discourtesy to the teachers and staff members, use of physical force, use of filthy obsence language, and willful damage of institutional property will incur strict disciplinary action

  • As regards attendance in class, a student shall be eligible to appear in the university semester examination as a regular candidate provided he/she has at least 75% attendance in the individual subjects. For irregular students, specific university regulations will be applied
  • Ragging is strictly prohibated by law. Any student found guilty of practicing ragging will be liable to severe disciplinary actions in the form of suspension, or even expulsion from the college
  • Students will be required to wear proper uniform / dress
  • Students are required to carry the Identity Card at all times. I n case of loss of identity card, a duplicate Card will be issued to the student when he/she applies for it and on payment of a fine
  • Student must observe strict silence in between class hours
  • Smoking within the institute premises is strictly prohibited
  • Students must take prior written permission from the Principa'I for absence in the class for more than two days
  • The college gate will be under lock and key in between 10-00 A.M. and 2-00 P.M. Students are directed to come to the college before 10-00 A.M. and they are not allowed leave the college before 2-00 P.M
  • Students are prohibited from bringing mobile phones inside classrooms, library, office etc.
  • Students must get the consent of the Principal before they plan to go for sightseeing / study tour
  • Pan Masala, Ghutkha, tobacco etc. are strictly prohibited in the college campus. The college tries its best to make it a tobacco free zone
  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • The college has well-equipped with Administrative Block, Academic Block, full-flagged Computer Laboratory, Auditorium, Conference Hall, Library, Boys Hostel and Girls Hostel, Gymnasium, Play Ground & Canteen within the campus.
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • Internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • The college campus includes a large playing ground which can accomodate almost all outdoor games.
  • The college has an inhouse campus canteen which provides quality food at reasonable rates.
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • A college magazine is published annually with a view to giving scope for expression of the literary and creative talents to the students and teachers of the college
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college.
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
