About Nabajyoti College

Nabajyoti College, Barpeta was established on 11th September, 1971. It is one of the premier institution in the region Kalgachia, Barpeta Dist., Assam.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2004.

Nabajyoti College has been playing the pivotal role in disseminating knowledge and imparting higher education among the poor students of greater Kalgachia area since its inception (1971). The foundation stone was laid by Late Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed, the then Honourable President of India.

The authority of the College has always been patronizing to enhance the quality of education with an objective to build skill and capacity among the students for ensuring their employment in the fast changing scenario of the country.The College is also providing training to the students for building good health and morality through NSS, NCC, BS & G regularly. The NAAC of India has adjudged the quality of the College and accredited Grade B (Score: 2.73) in 2016.

It is the only oldest college in the Muslim minority dominated area i.e. in Kalgachia. It has been imparting education to a large number of students hailing from a vast area predominantly inhabited by socially and economically backward segments of the population on Char Chapori of Assam.

The college was brought under the deficit system of grants-in-aid in December, 1979, by the Government of Assam.

The word "NABA-JYOTI" stands for "NABA" - New and "JYOTI" - Light or Knowledge. This was named NABAJYOTI COLLEGE, KALGACHIA to hold that exact meaning of new light by the then local MLA, a scholar and a minister of Assam, Marhum Ataur Rahman.

The college was started by Abdul Kader Babu, a local educationist and socio-political figure along with fellow followers of Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed as a night college, with the goal of providing educational opportunities to the poor students of the region as well as the minority community.

The foundation stone of this college was laid by the late honourable president of India, Marhum Fakar Uddin Ali Ahmed. Late Basir Uddin Ahmed was the first Principal of the college.

The colleges academic site is very good. Every year students are getting admitted to medical and engineering colleges.

The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like classrooms, library, laboratories & computer centre etc.

The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed

Internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs

The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college

Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field

State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
