Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala was established on 1st July 1967 by Padma Bhushan Rai Bahadur Seth Gujjar Mal Modi in the fond memory of his illustrious father Rai Bahadur Seth Multani Mal Modi and managed by college management committee.

The foundation stone of the college was laid by Dr. Dharam Vir, ICS, the then Governor of Punjab, on 21st  September 1966 and the first academic session commenced in July 1967.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 27th July 1973 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.26 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 1st May 2015.

The aim of the college was to provide quality education to the young men and women of the region and to imbibe the spirit of nationalism and patriotic fervor so that they could play an active role in the momentous task of national reconstruction and social uplift.

It was a co-educational private Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Patiala played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the Punjabi University, Patiala.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Punjabi University, Patiala.

The college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" on 20th July 2010 by Govt of India as the best college by their Punjabi University, Patiala.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, Mangement, and Computer Science streams and offers two years of post-graduate courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations under Punjabi University, Patiala. It also offers Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, and Add-On Course.
