It was established as a co-education college by a Society of the same name in a village in Contai Subdivision of Purba Medinipur District after the name of Medinipur's pride Late Raisaheb Gangadhar Nanda - a great lover of education.
The college was founded on donation collected from the local people to serve the poor habitations of the area, who were unable to send theirwards to distant places for higher education.
Noteworthy, some men, enthusiasts in education and social work, took principal initiative in establishing this college.
The college is accrediated by NAAC and recognized by NCTE.
