Morigaon College, Morigaon was established in 1964. It is one of the premier educational institution in Morigaon District is actively engaged in imparting higher education in the region.

The college is situated on a 32 bighas site in District Head Quarter of the District of Morigaon along the Nagaon-Morigaon Road in the eastern part of the town. It is situated at a distance of 70 km from the state capital Dispur. The nearest railway station is Jagiroad (25 km) and the nearest airport is the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (86 km).

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

Since its inception in 1964, it has been wholeheartedly dedicated to cater to the requirements of the poor and the needy students of the district. For the first two decades following its establishment, the college imparted education in the Arts Stream only.

In 1985, the scope of its activity was expanded with the introduction of Science Stream. Further, in 2002, the college introduced several vocational and job-oriented courses like Computer Application, Industrial Fish and Fisheries(IFF) and Functional Hindi.

In the face of the present socio-economic scenario, the UGC has reoriented and reshaped its policies and programmes to make the current Indian Higher Education System more careers oriented with focus on quality and excellence.

It is in keeping with the spirit of the UGC that Morigaon College introduced certain Career Oriented Courses (COC) like:

• Functional English
• Translation and Proficiency and
• Entrepreneurship in Small Scale Industries, from the session 2004-2005

It is expected that the professionally qualified graduates with sound knowledge of their core disciplines and expertise in a particular skill will have better chances of recruitment in service, industry and self-employment sectors.

The Parent - Teacher Association of the college in its meeting held on 18th February, 2012 has decided to introduce the commerce stream in degree level from the academic session 2012-2013 and necessary arrangements have been made for the same.

Administrative Body:

The academic and administrative affairs of the college are managed by a Governing Body (GB), which is the chief executive body of the institution. Discretionary powers are vested upon the Governing Body and the Principal of the college who control and undertake responsibility for the maintenance of standard of education, inter-departmental co-ordination, examination, research and infrastructure development of the college.

Rules & Regulations at Morigaon College, Morigaon:

• A student is required to attend all lectures, tutorials, and practical classes
• Use of mobile phone is strictly prohibited in the college campus
• Exhibition or introduction of any political party-emblem in the college premises is forbidden. Disciplinary action will be taken against a student resorting to such acts
• Disciplinary action will also be taken against any student resorting to acts calculated to cause public nuisance, disturbance of public peace, law and order

Any of the following acts by a student shall be considered as a major breach of discipline:

• Habitual unpunctuality
• Any form of immoral act
• Use of intoxicants, drugs etc.

  in the college premises or in any of the attached hostels

• Resorting to violence of any kind
