About Moridhal College

Moridhal College, Dhemaji was established on 16th August, 1988. in this vast, rural, tribal, inter state border area between the State of Assam and  Arunachal Pradesh, in the District of Dhemaji, Assam.

It is one of the premier higher education institution is situated in Moridhal, a vast rural area lying on the border between the state of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and is dwelt in by people of diverse caste, communities, tribes and ethnic groups who have their own distinct cultural traditions, religions and languages.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "C++" Grade.

Since its inception, the college has been sincerely rendering service in imparting higher education at UG level and devotedly working for the allround development of students and doing community service as expected of a higher education institution.

The college was taken over under Deficit Grant-in-Aid system by the Govt. of Assam w.e.f. 25th March, 1998. Then, later on the Govt. of Assam brought the colleges of the state under provincialization Act from the year 2005.  

Moridhal college is a co-educational institution having under graduate courses in Arts and Science under Dibrugarh University, Assam. There are 13 subjects in Arts viz. core subjects – English, MIL(AS / HINDI / ALT ENG) and optional subjects - Economics, Education, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, History, Geography, Mathematics, Anthropology and Statistics. All these subjects have major courses in Arts. In Science faculty 9 subjects are being taught viz. Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Anthropology, Statistics, Computer Science and Geography. Amongst which Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Anthropology, Statistics and Geography offer major course.
 
Of late, the affiliating university has introduced Environmental studies, multidisciplinary course and computer as compulsory subject in undergraduate programme for both Arts and Science.

Moreover, the college offers UGC sponsored Computer Application, Library Management, Fish and Fishery as Carrier oriented ‘add-on’ courses. A Gandhian Study Centre and Ambedkar Study Centre are established with the financial assistance of the UGC under the scheme ”Epoch Making Social Thinker” along with the Human Rights Cell of the college. Certificate courses on Human Rights and Gandhian Studies are being provided under the aegis of the concerned centres.

The college also offers the different courses of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) Gauhati University, Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) Dibrugarh University, IGNOU in the respective study centers of the open Universities in the college.

In consideration to the backwardness of the area in the Socio-economic and educational sphere and a considerable number of students being deprived of higher education for financial constraints, the local public, the parents and the few educationists of the area conceived of the idea of setting up this institution at Moridhal.

At their great endeavour and tireless efforts under the leadership of Dr. Kamal Gogoi, the founder principal along with profound support of the teachers who volunteered to work under the ordeal circumstances, Moridhal College with Arts Stream at under graduate level was established in the year 1988.
 
The main aim of the college is to co-ordinate all stakeholders for concerted effort in all round development of the college and make optimal use of available infrastructure so as to achieve its vision through proper planning of every aspect and implementation of its Annual Action Plans in letter and spirit and to provide higher education imbued with value-education and quality which develops student’s potentiality, adaptability and sense of peace, harmony, brotherhood, social justice and nationalism.

Goals & Objectives:

Moridhal College has the following long cherished goals and objectives which are by and large reflected through the plans, programs and activities conducted by the college:

  • To provide higher education to the poor and needy students of this backward region irrespective of caste, creed, sex and religion
  • To promote literacy and scientific outlook among the people
  • To cultivate social, moral, ethical and spiritual values among the students
  • To help the students acquire right attitude, knowledge, understanding and competence by building a of healthy environment
  • To provide opportunity to the young generation to reflect their views critically on social, economic, cultural, moral and spiritual issues faced by humanity, that contribute to national development through dissemination of specialized knowledge and skill
  • To develop desirable qualities for all-round development of a rich personality
  • To build up intelligent democratic citizenship
  • To develop a sense of responsibility and social belongingness and provide opportunity to involve themselves in the process of social and national development through the best practices in the institution
  • To create awareness on self employment and entrepreneurship as career option among the Students, Alumni and other youth through proper guidance and counseling and by encouraging their participation in various career oriented courses
  • To enable the students to appreciate and recognize India’s rich cultural heritage and delete those elements from their mind which are recognised as undesirable and antiquated especially in the context of social change
  • To foster among the youth an understanding of diverse cultural and social system of the people living in different parts of the country and motivate them to realize the sense of social harmony, co-operation, peaceful co-existence, national integration and international understanding

  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like classrooms, library, laboratories, computer centre, canteen, playgrounds & hostel etc.
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • Internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • The college campus includes a large playing ground which can accomodate almost all outdoor games
  • The college has an inhouse campus canteen which provides quality food at reasonable rates
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
